Welcome to Indie Cinema Academy!

Cameras are everywhere these days, but sadly it seems few know how to use them. At Indie Cinema Academy, we will teach you how to take those cameras and create inspiring works that impact your audience.

We don’t limit our lessons to teaching you “this piece of gear” and “that piece of kit.” Instead, we focus on the “whys” of cameras and lights, so that you can skillfully move between cameras and productions, both high budget and no-budget.

Explore. Watch some of our free lessons. Learn about light meters and storytelling techniques, how LED lights could be perfect for your project or perhaps ruin it. There’s lots to take in, and even more on the membership side.

Feel free to comment or ask questions. We’re here to help!

Did You Know?: The left side of the camera (from operator’s perspective) is called the smart side of the camera. It is where the operator and 1st AC work much of the time. Most menu buttons are on the smart side for this reason. Very rarely do manufacturers place buttons on the dumb side (the right side) since the operator and/or 1st AC would have to move to that side to see and use those buttons.
